Walking into Darkside Studio, you would think you have just entered a special effects shop somewhere in Hollywood, California, but one of the world’s finest mask crafters is right here in the Chicago south suburban community of Steger.
Owner Paul Daniels is the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back if you asked. He is a happily married father of four that has latex coursing through his veins. “Darkside Paul” (as he is known) started making
monsters back in 1984 after his Grandfather died the day before Halloween. He found making masks very cathartic and one of those things that either made you embrace the Halloween holiday or plain hate it.Paul elected to embrace it and how!
Paul got addicted to the rubbery stuff as a mask collector and decided to take the plunge himself in 1995.Darkside Studio was born out of his garage and laundry room.
Darkside Studio is a true family business. Along with a small production team, his wife Kim, does the business
book work. His twin sons Scott and Chris help out in the busy season with painting and hairing. Darkside Studio
also features a wide array of ncredibly detailed masks sculpted by Jeremy Bohr, Pete Infelise, Doug Goins, Jeff Wehenkel , Joe Lester, Don Lanning, Jon Fuller, John Smith and Vincent Van Dyke. Paul personally checks every item that leaves the studio to guarantee it is of the highest quality.

They do custom paint on request and believe me, if you want something custom and have the $cratch, I’m sure something could be worked out.
