About the Show: THE DROWSY CHAPERONE is the tale of a modern day musical theatre maven, known simply as “Man in Chair.” To chase his blues away he plays his favourite LP- the 1928 musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone. From the crackle of his phonograph, the musical magically bursts to life on-stage telling the tale of the pampered Broadway starlet who wants to give up showbiz to get hitched, and her producer’s attempt to sabotage her impending marriage. Hilarious antics ensue with her chaperone, the debonair groom, the dizzy chorus girl, the Latin lover and a pair of gangsters masquerading as pastry chefs. Man in Chair’s love of The Drowsy Chaperone communicates to anyone who has ever been transported to the theatre.
About the Company: Based in Toronto, CATS MAINSTAGE THEATRE COMPANY is an acting company dedicated to teaching and developing a passion for theatre at a professional level. It provides talented young people with the opportunity to study and perform under the guidance of Gina Anki, CEO & Artistic Director, and a multitude of professional musicians, choreographers and actors. Past productions include West Side Story, Grease, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Les Misérables, School Edition, and Fame. CATS MAINSTAGE THEATRE COMPANY is a not for profit organization and a registered charity.
About the Director: This production is directed and choreographed by Peter Buzny, a graduate of the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, and recipient of their Triple Threat Award. Peter was the featured Ballroom Dancer/Dance Captain in Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story On Stage (Mirvish), and was an assistant choreographer for the premier season of So You Think You Can Dance Canada. He has danced the Polka with Hilary Clinton, the Foxtrot with Helen Mirren (The Queen), and boogied with Chaka Khan.
